  • Frozen Waterfalls: En route to Kaza, you’ll see massive waterfalls frozen into giant ice curtains.
  • Key Monastery: Perched on a conical hill, this fortress-like monastery looks surreal when covered in snow. You can often share butter tea with the resident monks.
  • Tabo (The Ajanta of the Himalayas): A UNESCO World Heritage site over 1,000 years old, housing ancient murals and frescoes preserved in mud-brick structures.
  • Hikkim: Send a postcard to your loved ones from the World’s Highest Post Office.
  • Langza: Home to the giant Golden Buddha statue that overlooks the valley against the backdrop of the Chau Chau Kang Nilda peak.
  • Tranda Dhank: Drive through the famous “half-tunnel” roads of Kinnaur, where the road is literally carved into a vertical cliff face.
  • Chicham Bridge: Walk across Asia’s highest suspension bridge, suspended 13,500 ft above a deep gorge.
  • The Crown Jewel (Chandratal): Located at an altitude of approximately 4,250 meters, this crescent-shaped lake changes colors from turquoise to deep blue as the sun moves. Camping near the lake (usually 2–3 km away at the designated campsites) offers one of the clearest views of the Milky Way in the Himalayas.

  • Kaza is at 3,800m. Since the group has been ascending gradually from Nako, they should be well-acclimatized, but remind them to stay hydrated.

The High-Altitude Circuit
Route: Kaza → Hikkim → Komic → Langza → Key Monastery → Kaza

  • The iconic golden Buddha Statue is the most photographed landmark in the region.
  • Key Buddhist Monastery : The largest monastery in Spiti Valley, Key (or Ki) is a magnificent example of monastic architecture, looking like a fortress from a distance.
  • The "fort-like" structure is composed of many small rooms stacked on top of each other on a conical hill.
  • Back to Kaza

The Road to the Moon Lake
Route: Kaza→ Chicham Bridge → Losar → Kunzum Pass → Chandra Taal
Distance: ~100 km | 6-7 hours

After breakfast we will start our ride toward Chandratal lake. Before heading toward the main highway, take the detour to cross this architectural marvel which connects Chicham village to Kibber. Suspended at an altitude of about 4,000 meters, it is often cited as the highest suspension bridge in Asia.

  • Kunzum Pass : This high-altitude gateway (4,551m) connects the Spiti Valley to the Lahaul Valley and is the highest point of your journey.
  • Riders traditionally perform a ceremonial circumambulation (Pradakshina) of the Kunzum Devi temple at the top for a safe journey.
  • Chandra Taal : The legendary "Moon Lake" is a crescent-shaped alpine lake that sits in a glacial bowl, offering one of the most serene experiences in the Himalayas.
  • The water changes color throughout the day, shifting from turquoise to emerald green and deep blue.
