The Dayara Bugyal Trek is a picturesque and relatively easy trek located in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand, India. Famous for its sprawling high-altitude meadows and breathtaking Himalayan views, this trek is perfect for beginners and seasoned trekkers alike. The Dayara Bugyal Trek is a hidden gem of Uttarakhand, offering a perfect blend of stunning landscapes, peaceful surroundings, and manageable trekking routes. Whether you’re trekking for the first time or looking for a peaceful escape in nature, this trek is sure to leave you with unforgettable memories of the Himalayas. Dayara Bugyal Trek is considered easy, making it suitable for beginners. With its gradual ascents and descents, it provides a comfortable pace for those looking to experience trekking in the Himalayas without facing extreme altitudes.

In winter

Winters being extreme in the Himalayas makes it difficult to access the higher reaches of it during the peak winter months starting from November-December to the end of March. During this time, Himalayas receive a lot of snowfall which makes a lot of treks inaccessible. It is the same very reason which makes Dayara Bugyal Trek a unique affair as this is among those rare treks nestled in the Garhwal Himalayas during that period wherein the trekkers can tread through snow and indulge in a magical experience.

Treks Plan

After arriving in Haridwar or Rishikesh, you'll begin your journey towards the base village of Raithal, the starting point for the Dayara Bugyal Trek. Raithal, is a quiet and beautiful village with a traditional Garhwali atmosphere. It offers mesmerizing views of snow-capped peaks and is the perfect place to acclimatize before starting the trek. Upon reaching Raithal, you'll have the rest of the evening to relax, explore the village, and soak in the tranquil surroundings. After this long drive and some rest, we conduct a briefing about our schedule, know-how, basic do's and don'ts, and environmental conservation practices.

Post a filling breakfast, we begin our trek from Raithal village towards our camp in the vicinity of Goui. The trail is a walk through the jungle. There are silver and gold oak trees all around. The route to the campsite is well marked and the campsite at Gui always remains in line of sight. The trail is easy and ascends gradually. A mesmerizing view of Mt. Srikanth, Mt. Bandarpoonch and DraupadikaDaanda peaks are visible through this scenic spot. On a good sunny day, one can see the whole panorama of Garhwal Himalayas right from Gangotri to Mt. Jaonli from these vast grounds. we have our lunch and then get ready to visit the jade colouredGui Lake. The winter temperatures near the lake make the water body completely frozen, even during daytimes. After spending some time around the lake and surrounding clearings, we make our way back to the campsite. The sunset views from this campsite are a highlight not to be missed!

Today is an easier day comparatively. The trail rises slowly as the forest clears and you reach the next camping site of Chilpada. It will be a small trek. The trail follows out of the Gui campsite and onwards towards Dayara. As you climb out of Gui campsite, the mountains on the other side that were hidden come closer into view. Carrying one liter of water is enough for today. You might get some snow traces on the path. The Gui Thatch offers beautiful views of Shrikanth Peak, and Gangotri I, II, and III peaks. You will also spot the Jaonli Peak as well as the top of Bandarpoonch. Soak in the charms of a Himalayan forest in this leisurely walk. Hot lunch will be served at the campsite. You will arrive at the Chilpada campsite. The campsite is covered with forest.

We make our descent from Goui back towards the village of Raithal today. Rhododendrons can be found aplenty on this path. We have our day’s packed lunch midway through our stride down to Raithal. The village landscape appears in the foreground from the forest, within an hour into the trail. The trail ends near GMVN cottage adjacent to a village cafe in Raithal, marking the completion of the trek.
