Treks Plan

All of us assemble at the meeting point by 6:30am so we can start our long drive up to Sankri – a trekking hub in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand. On your way, you will cross picturesque places like Mussoorie, Mori, Naitwar, etc. You will drive along the beautiful Yamuna and Tons Rivers with pine trees lining the road. The River is milky white in some places and clear green in others. The fragrance of pinewood and the beauty of nature will make up for the long ride to Sankri. The last stretch of the road, about 22 km from Sankri, is even more beautiful as you enter the Govind National Park, famous for being home to much exotic flora and fauna. On reaching Sankri, we will check in at our hotel. After freshening up, you can spend the evening at the quaint hamlet of Sankri at your leisure.

After Breakfast, Begin the day with a scenic drive from Sankri or Osla to the last motorable point in the Tons Valley. There are few concrete dwellings and motels in this little hamlet. The walk begins from Taluka and leads to Osla. Pass through lush forests dotted with walnut trees, with vistas of Himalayan villages ahead. The villagers worship Duryodhana at a temple dedicated to him. After erecting your tents and exploring this charming location, relax for the night.

After Breakfast, The journey from Ruinsara Tal to Kyarkoti marks an exciting transition as you move closer to the base camp for Mt. Black Peak. The trail offers a mix of scenic beauty and challenging terrain, making it one of the most memorable days of the expedition. Kyarkoti is a massive patch of grassland surrounded by boulders and snow-clad mountains. The campsite lies next to a spring. We dare you to stop the adrenaline from rushing through your veins as you get to the base of this mesmerizing peak. Get a good look at your ultimate goal standing tall right before you, for the first time in the trek!

A lot is to be achieved during your time at base camp- from the distribution and setting up of all the gear to technical training and practice on the icy slopes. But before then, you have the entire day to rest your bodies and acclimatize to the terrain, altitude and temperature of the base camp which lay at 3,820M – a height gain of approximately 2000M from Sankri, the village where it all began!

Take the ferry, your essential gear & clothing required for the summit push, from Base Camp to Advance Base Camp. It’s a fair bit of altitude gain from Base Camp to Advanced Base Camp but also a good trial run to get accustomed to the slopes and terrain of the peak. Trek back to Base Camp. Stay the night there.

Follow the same route from Base Camp to ABC that you did yesterday – through moraines, glaciers, and ice. You will start to realize that everything seems easier the second time around. Overnight at the Advance Base Camp. Finally walking for about 5 to 6 hours depending on your pace, you arrive at the Advanced Base Camp. The campsite is surrounded by towering mountain peaks. Bandarpoonch stands tall in front of you in all its glory and the majestic views are enough to take all your tiredness away.

The seventh day of the expedition focuses on load ferrying from ABC to Camp 1, a crucial step in preparing for a successful summit attempt of Mt. Black Peak. Load ferrying involves transporting essential equipment, food, and gear to higher camps to ease the climb and ensure readiness for the ascent. Load the ferry from ABC to Camp 1. With a majestic view of Swargarohini to the North and Bandarpooch to the south, we have now reached a terrain rich in hidden and open crevasses. Return to Advance Base Camp after setting up Camp 1.

Continue on the same way you took yesterday. The journey from ABC to Camp 1.

Today marks a crucial step in the expedition as the team prepares for the summit push. The journey from the Camp 1 to the Summit Camp is short but demanding, involving steep climbs and technical sections. Return to Camp 1.

Continue on the same way you took yesterday. The journey from Camp 1 to Summit Camp.

Elevation: 6387m / 20955 ft.
Terrain: Glacier, steep ice slopes, rocky ridges
Duration: 12-14 hours

This is the most thrilling and challenging day of the Mt. Black Peak expedition. Starting pre-dawn, climbers navigate through snow-laden terrain with ice axes, crampons, and ropes. The ascent requires determination, technical skills, and teamwork as you climb to the majestic summit of Black Peak. Upon reaching the top, experience breathtaking panoramic views of the Garhwal Himalayas before carefully descending back to Advanced Base Camp (ABC) to celebrate your achievement.

Journey to the Summit:

  • Start at Midnight: Equipped with headlamps, ropes, and technical gear, the team begins the climb from the Advanced Base Camp (ABC). The trail involves navigating through crevassed glaciers, ascending steep snowfields, and traversing icy ridges.
  • Challenging Sections: The final ascent to the summit includes steep and technical stretches where climbers need to use their crampons and ice axes effectively. Rope-fixing is required for safety in some sections.
  • Reaching the Summit: Upon reaching the summit, you'll be rewarded with a breathtaking 360° view of the majestic Himalayas. Peaks like Bandarpoonch, Swargarohini, and Gangotri are visible in all their glory, making every ounce of effort worth it.

After celebrating and capturing the moment, the team begins the descent to ABC. Extreme caution is exercised during the descent, as it can be more challenging than the ascent due to fatigue. After reaching ABC, a well-deserved rest awaits before planning the journey back to base camp the following day. This marks the culmination of an extraordinary adventure, forever etching the experience in your mountaineering legacy.

Following a successful summit ascent, descend from the Summit camp to the Base camp.

Start your day with a hearty breakfast. Today you will hike from Seema village to Taluka and drive back to Sankri.

Today is the day you bid adieu to the mountains. Well start for Dehradun early in the morning.

In case of bad weather or other difficulties which might set us off schedule during the course of the entire expedition, Day 15 is set as a reserve day. This will only get used if unexpected and unforeseeable conditions present themselves at the last minute preventing us from reaching our destination as planned. Keep a buffer day in your travel plan.
